I am a 59 year-old truck driver. I’ve been driving commercially since 1993; running locally up until 1998 and primarily OTR since ’98. I’ve hauled containers (Ugh!), dry vans, flatbeds, reefers, and tankers. I, by far, prefer tankers, since they are, absolutely, the last word in NO TOUCH freight. If you’re touching product, hauling a tanker, you have a problem; and, as much as I hate to say it, I’ve touched product on numerous occasions; gawd, have I made some real messes! I am a dog-lover, particularly pit bulls, a breed that has been so unfairly vilified. I find them to have the sweetest natures. In the truck, while traveling over-the-road, they make the great companions. OTR drivers develop extremely close bonds with their pets; due to the fact that they are together 24 hrs a day, seven days a week, 365 days a years. I am inseparable from my dog and on the rare occasion that we are away from each other, I miss her greatly. I quit a driving job because while my truck was in the shop for repairs, I was given a tractor with no sleeper and instructed to sleep in motels, leaving my dog in the truck. I refused to make my dog sleep in the truck, while I slept in a motel; so I quit on the spot.
Anyway, being single, with no children, I find that life on the road suits me and I generally enjoy it a great deal. I am a real gadget freak and am always trying to see that my truck is equipped with the best CB, entertainment, and GPS; not to mention a vast collection of truck- stop gadgets, gadget analyzers, gadget mounts, gadget accessories, and a remote control for every one of them. Whatever I can get to achieve a greater degree of peace of mind while driving, aid me by providing directions, or just to entertain myself with in my off-time.
My interests are reading, computers, CB’s, motorcycle (I own a Harley), carpentry, and hang gliding, although I haven’t had a glider in over ten years I do plan to get one sometime in the future.
I am a company driver and, though not working at the moment, I will be going back to driving in early February. Where ever I go, whatever I do, whoever I work for, you can be certain of one thing: Cheyenne will be right there with me!
